What’s the show all about?
Author, historian and broadcaster; Graham Loveluck-Edwards brings you a series of talks on the horrible history of Christmas. Real history and genuine events but viewed through a light-hearted lens and presented in a humorous and entertaining way.
Discover how the character of “Father Christmas” was originally created to represent everything that was wrong with Christmas. How much the modern day Santa shares a lot of DNA with the Norse god; Odin and why the people of Dijon burned an effigy of Santa Clause in their Cathedral.
We will also be looking at some of the more bizarre traditions associated with the festive and mid-winter season. Everything from the Mari Lwyd to the rather terrifying “Krampus”.
Is this suitable for children?
It depends if they believe in Santa or not. If they still do, I would hate to be the one to burst their bubble. Especially in the run up to the big day. However, beyond that, there is no content that is likely to offend, embarrass or frighten them. Apart from the massacre! We do talk about a medieval massacre at one point. But besides that, they should be fine. And anyway, they get in for half price so win-win.

Who is Graham Loveluck-Edwards?
Graham Loveluck-Edwards is a historian, author and broadcaster. He writes for Nation Cymru and the Glamorgan Star newspapers and the Buddy Magazine. He hosts ‘History on your doorstep’ on Bro Radio and features in various television and film documentaries.
He also runs an award winning festival of rambling and immersive history through the summer called The Glamorgan History Walks.
To date he has published 5 books on Welsh history and folklore, Including the bestseller; ‘Historic Pubs of Wales’ and “Scoundrels Cads and Vagabonds from Welsh History”. A tongue in cheek rogues gallery of Welsh horrible history.
His new book, due out in the Autumn of 2026 is “Why Santa Might Kill You!” A light-hearted horrible history of Christmas. Everything from bizarre and forgotten Winter traditions to some of the more weird origins opf traditions we take for granted today.
