Welsh History Talks & Lectures

The new schools curriculum in Wales calls for students to receive a far more ’rounded’ understanding of Welsh history and of Wales’ place in global history at large.

Many schools in Wales are also undertaking projects on local history.

If you have a brief to fulfil, no matter how broad or specific, I will gladly research and produce a session to run from half an hour to a half day. I can also be on site to deliver such sessions multiple times if needed. I tailor my talks to cater for the educational needs of children at primary, secondary or tertiary school or college level.

My prime objective with my history talks is to make them as engaging and entertaining as they are educational. I use a lot of interaction with the children to keep energy levels high.

Subjects I have delivered to schools in Wales include:

  • Life in a Welsh town in the Tudor period
  • Local legends & folklore
  • Beyond the ordinary
  • The history of your local castle
  • The history of your town
  • Crime in the Industrial Revolution
  • Medieval Glamorgan
  • War and conflict

Adroddiad disgyblion Ysgol y Ferch O’r Sgรชr Gorffennaf 2024: Ymweliad Cynefin

โ€˜Gwnaethon ni fwynhau ymweliad Mr Loveluck-Edward รข’r ysgol yn fawr. Roedd yn ddiddorol iawn ac wedi ateb llawer oโ€™n cwestiynau. Roedd yn addysgiadol iawn. Dysgon ni lawer o ffeithiau am fywyd yn ein hardal yn y gorffennol. Fe wnaethon ni fwynhau clywed yn arbennig am y dystiolaeth bod dyn o Oes y Cerrig yn defnyddio fflintiau a phennau saethau i hela yma a bod enwau’r Llychlynwyr yn yr ardal yn dweud wrthym efallai fod Llychlynwyr wedi bod yn ymladd am dir yma. Fe wnaethon ni fwynhau clywed chwedl Pwll Cynffig a stori Y Ferch Oโ€™r Sgรชr. Roedd yn ddiddorol cymharu’r ffaith a’r ffuglen. Doedden ni ddim wedi sylweddoli bod pentref Cynffig wedi cael ei adleoli na bod coridorau offeiriad cudd yn Nhลท Sger.  Roeddem hefyd yn gyffrous i feddwl y gallai rhai ohonom fod yn perthyn i Ddeuddeg Marchog Morgannwg. Mae’n anodd credu bod hwn i gyd wedi digwydd ar garreg ein drws yr holl flynyddoedd hynny yn รดl. Diolch yn fawr iawn Mr Loveluck Edwards – byddem wrth ein bodd yn cael ymweliad arall i glywed mwy am waith dur Bedford a Pharc Slip cyn hir’.

Ysgol y Ferch Oโ€™r Sgรชr pupil report July 2024: Cynefin visit

โ€˜We really enjoyed Mr Loveluck-Edwardโ€™s visit to school. It was fascinating, intriguing, and interesting. It was very educational, and we learnt a lot of facts about life in our area in the past. We particularly enjoyed hearing about the evidence that stone age man used flints and arrow heads to hunt here and that the Viking names in the area tell us that Vikings may have been fighting for land here. We enjoyed hearing the myth of Kenfig Pool and the story of the Maid of Sker. It was interesting to compare the fact and the fiction. We hadnโ€™t realised that the village of Kenfig had been relocated or that there were secret priest passages in Sker House.  We were also excited to think that some of us may be distant relations of the Twelve Knights of Morgannwg. It is hard to believe that all of this happened on our doorstep all those years ago. Thank you very much Mr Loveluck Edwards- weโ€™d love to have another visit to hear more about Bedford Park and Park Slip soonโ€™.
